I don’t often base preaching on winning or losing but I think it is a valid point to suggest.  The majority of people, whether they say they care or not, really get hurt when they lose at something.  I like this saying because you could take it a couple ways; Think Training’s Hard? Try Losing.  I like to take it in the perspective that I am losing in regards to myself.  I am failing at my goals, I am not making my weights, I am not being dedicated to myself.  This translate often into whether you win or lose in the competition as well.

In coaching gymnastics, I deal with a ton of children and the fact that there is only one winner in a competition.  It is very difficult to get a child to understand that the competition is not the victory but nailing all their routines and breaking their own barriers is the ultimate goal.  Keeping the focus of advancing one self mentally and physically is the ultimate reward.  The medal on your neck is the confirmation that you have done everything yoy have done has paid off.

“The resistance that you fight physically in the gym and the resistance that you fight in life can only build a strong character.”  Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Read that quote a few times.  Let it sink in.  Breaking through walls and barriers will only have positive benefits. Yes, you can have pitfalls, you can have failures. It is how you handle those challenges and overcome them that will reap the benefits for a lifetime.  If you are at a plateau in your workouts, fighting off an injury, or changing your lifestyle, destroy that barrier and make a change that will help you for a lifetime.

Don’t be afraid to branch out and try a new routine. Don’t be afraid to try and fail. It’s overcoming the resistance that will be the overall victory.
