I don’t often base preaching on winning or losing but I think it is a valid point to suggest. The majority of people, whether they say they care or not, really get hurt when they lose at something. I like this saying because you could take it a couple ways; Think Training’s Hard? Try Losing. I like to take it in the perspective that I am losing in regards to myself. I am failing at my goals, I am not making my weights, I am not being dedicated to myself. This translate often into whether you win or lose in the competition as well.
In coaching gymnastics, I deal with a ton of children and the fact that there is only one winner in a competition. It is very difficult to get a child to understand that the competition is not the victory but nailing all their routines and breaking their own barriers is the ultimate goal. Keeping the focus of advancing one self mentally and physically is the ultimate reward. The medal on your neck is the confirmation that you have done everything yoy have done has paid off.
Think Trainings Hard Try Losing
“The Greatest Victory Of All Is To Inspire” – Jeffrey Suijkerbuijk
I love this quote. I find myself training for two reasons; to better myself and to inspire others. You obviously reap the personal benefits or working out in both the physical aspects as well as the mental aspect. However, whether you know it or not, you may be impacting and motivating someone you don’t even know. I coach gymnastics and numerous times I have had gymnast come up to me and make a comment about motivating them to train harder or get stronger. Don’t ever think that you can’t have an impact on someone. Do it for yourself, do it to inspire others to do the same.

The Rock is one of my personal hero’s and motivation. It is great to see someone who has put his body through hell and back and still keeps training and pushing the limits. It goes to show that there is no excuse, whether it’s your body, injury, age. If you have the desire; you can achieve anything.
